Today I had to go to urgent care for a nasty sinus infection that just wouldn’t go away. Of course, this would be the weekend we are moving into our new casa.
Fortunately, Luis and his BFF (visiting us from El Salvador) have been doing everything. I’ve helped pack stuff, but they rented a U-Haul and have been hauling boxes and unpacking at the new house while I have stayed here with Maya. To say I am grateful for their hard work would be a dramatic understatement. Continue reading “Sitting in Silence”→
Saturday, we’d gone to an Amish village in Indiana called Shipshewana for the day with friends. We basically ate our way through the village and literally every penny we spent was on food. It was heavenly.
One of my favorite foods to buy at Amish markets is those sugar-coated pectin fruit slices candies (as seen on the left). I suck all the sugar off them — I just love these little guys even though they are a pure caloric waste.
The other thing I love are these hard sanded black licorice candies. So I was happy to get both (plus some white chocolate baking medallions and these to-die-for mini dark chocolate raspberry cups).
When we got home with our bounty of buffalo burger meat, brats (for the hubs — I’m not a fan), cheeses, breads, sweets and candies … we unloaded everything to the fridge or bread box. I left the fruit slices and licorice candies on the island — tucked far away from the eager pup’s reach.
Now usually when we’re running around the house cleaning or what not, we’ll crate Rocco (or put him “in his house” as we tell him) since, at just over 16 weeks of age, he’s ridiculously curious and gets into anything and everything. Continue reading “Nurse Melissa, At Your Service”→
Confession: I haven’t had any binges, per se, since being sick and recovering from H1N1 … but I’ve definitely done more emotional eating than I had been in a while.
While I’m not particularly proud of my choices (I’ve eaten so many crackers and pretzels and Chex and stuff I just didn’t need) over the past week — when this could have been an opportunity to just eat clean …
But the truth is, I haven’t been feeling good and all that has sounded good has been carbs. And processed carbs, at that.
So I hope by the time you read this, I’m settled in to my desk again at work, checking voice-mails and responding to e-mails and all that jazz that comes with being out of work for 4 days.
Being no longer contagious, though I don’t feel 100%, I figured I couldn’t afford to stay home any longer … not without going ape on myself, that is!
So … I decided today, my third wedding anniversary 🙂 would be a good day to go back to work.
(Note: It’d have been mighty nice to be home with my hubby, but he’s traipsing around Belgium and Germany for school til Sunday so … happy anniversary, me 😉 We’ll be celebrating when he gets back!)
If I’m being perfectly honest, these days at home have been super-lonely … it’s been like solitary confinement except for the obvious (I’m not in trouble with the law).
That’s kind of why I’ve been blogging so much, or, if you are on Facebook or Twitter, why I’ve been so active there … besides phone calls, it’s all I have for human contact at the moment! Continue reading “Target Kicked My Booty”→
I am honestly a terrible patient. I work so hard to stay healthy year-round (i.e., eating well, exercising regularly, limiting alcohol, etc.) that when I get sick, it feels like a slap in the face, like my body is letting me down.
While most people probably love the idea of being forced to lounge on the couch and sleep all day, as a hyper-active person, I have to admit, that makes me pretty nuts … and yet it’s exactly what I need to be doing when I’m sick.
