Anyone who knows me knows I’m more or less obsessed with cupcakes (a treat I wouldn’t TOUCH 3 years ago, mind you!)
And while I don’t particularly care for the cake aspect of said delights, I’m ridiculously in love with frosting. Of all kinds. Any kind. And the more decorations/chunks/stuff on top, the better.
Hubby and I can easily share a piece of cake: I take all the frosting, he takes all the cake. SCORE!
Anyway, Crumbscupcakes are my absolute favorite. Whenever I go home to N.J. (or visit NYC) I HAVE to have a Crumbs cupcake (or two or three … all shared of course since they are GINORMOUS! ;)) It’s all about the moderation factor, right? Continue reading “Happy 4th of July!”→
“Live in the present; come back to the moment.” — the Dalai Lama
This quote epitomizes this past weekend with my best friend, which was absolutely fantastic and exactly what I needed.
As I’ve shared here before, living in the present is (and always has been) one of my biggest struggles. It just doesn’t come naturally to me.
But this weekend, I was really able to do it without much thought. And I couldn’t be happier about it.
Like several experiences I’ve shared throughout my recovery (my anniversary dinner at the Melting Pot, with my hubby, the wedding we went to in Oaxaca this March, etc) this was one of those times where I was able to embrace the present, keeping in mind that we have a million fun moments (in the distant past and recent past) to come back to whenever we want.
And I have to say, it made for a happier, healthier, significantly more enjoyable weekend.
I was just “me” – not recovering disordered eater Melissa. Just Melissa, together with my BFF, savoring precious time together.
As a Jersey girl, I can’t help but be obsessed with the Real Houswives of New Jersey.
In last week’s episode, Caroline (a.k.a. “Mama Bear”) said something that really resonated that Bethenny Frankel pointed out as well on her Bravo blog.
Caroline was working out with her trainer (um, in her personal gym at home that rivals most regular gyms!) and I’m paraphrasing here but she basically said, “Do I like it? No. Do I know it’s good for me? Yes. And that’s why I work out.”
She followed that up with her ‘money line’ that I just love (and speaks to how I’m feeling lately).
“I could be hit by a bus tomorrow, and I’d be wishing I ate that freaking piece of cheesecake before I saw that bus coming.”
