Sibling Love

I don’t know what I expected to happen when Maya met Ben, but I have to admit … I was a bit worried when my parents brought her to the hospital and she didn’t seem exactly … enthralled by Ben.

Don’t get me wrong; she was curious about him but — as I noted in Ben’s birth post — she was more interested in my IV, my incision, and “What we going to eat?” (yes, she is my kid through and through!)

She cannot get enough of him now, and it kills us to see her interact with him. Of course, it’s totally one-sided for now … but there will come a time when they are the best of friends and I can’t wait to see their friendship evolve.

“Can I play with him? Can I read to him? Can he talk? Here, baby brother. A book! Look, baby brother. A big airplane!” This is what we hear on the way home from school. And it warms my heart to no end, how much she wants to integrate him into her little world.

She sings to him.
She sings to him.
She reads to him.
She reads to him.
She feeds him.
She feeds him.
She rocks him.
She rocks him.
She adores him.
She adores him.

I know siblings won’t always get along 24/7, but I am super-close to my brother and sister and adore the life-long connection we have. I can only hope Maya and Ben experience something similar.

After all, our siblings are our first friends. And, if we’re lucky, our best friends.
