Stand-Up Workstation Review

I recently got a stand-up workstation and I have to say, I love it!

As I tend to get bored in one position, what makes this workstation so awesome is I can raise it and stand OR lower it and sit, depending on my mood and circumstances. Which comes in handy when I’m eating breakfast, writing notes, or just need to give my feet a break.

PROS:
Calorie burn (you burn twice as many calories standing as you do sitting) so with very little effort, I can get some NEAT activity in.

-I can do leg lifts and squats and no one can see me (yay for a corner cufice!)

-I can fidget freely.

CONS:

-I can’t eat or drink easily (which isn’t such a bad thing … except when one needs breakfast or lunch!)

-I need to re-evaluate my footwear choice (I keep forgetting and opting for heels … and then my back and shoulders ache)

-I still tend to use the laptop’s keyboard which is bad bad bad for my shoulders!!! (my dear ergonomic engineer friend reading this has already lectured me on this!)

Overall, I’m pleased with my Ergotron stand-up workstation. I’m getting a mat to stand on that is supposed to absorb shock or something and I think that will make my experience even better. And I’m going to bring comfy shoes for when I’m at my desk. I can slip on my heels when I walk out of my cufice, but at least this way, I’ll be more comfortable.

How about you? Have you ever used a stand-up workstation? Would you want one?

  1. I had never even heard of a stand-up workstation before. What a cool idea.

And, yeah, lay off the heels – they’re terrible for you, period, much less if you’re standing all day! They’ll throw your spinal alignment out of whack.

  2. I love my station, too, although I wish they would have ordered us the version without the side for the monitor. I keep confusing my bucket of rocks weighing down the other side for my glass of water out of the corner of my eye when I’m sitting. šŸ˜‰

After my commute, I’m always glad NOT to have to sit down when I get into the office. I also, though, have to get myself some office Danskos or something. After reading this post last night, I did wear my Danskos today… and stood pretty much all day.
