Nearly One Week Diet Coke Free

I didn’t want to jinx myself by announcing it here before I did it, but I’ve decided to give up my Diet Coke habit once and for all. I’m not saying I’ll never drink it again, but certainly not in the massive quantities in which I’d been drinking it. And since last Wednesday, I haven’t had a drop.

You see, last Tuesday night I went to the grocery store to return my myriad of bottles and cans and was given back $5.70 (i.e., $0.10/can or bottle). Somehow, seeing that huge figure (and the ginormous bag of bottles and cans) really did a number on my psyche … causing me to just go cold turkey last Wednesday.

I simply don’t want to be putting those nasty chemicals into my body and I feel much, much better without it.

I admit, it was weird to go out to eat and not order it (it’s my go-to beverage of choice) … but unsweetened iced tea and water are just fine and a helluva lot better for my body, to boot.

Just wanted to share!!

  1. Good for you!!! Those chemicals are soooo bad for you!!! I’m here to cheer you on and offer any support that I can in your decision to do this. Isn’t it amazing how much better you feel? I know I feel awful when I drink diet soda. And it doesn’t even quench my thirst. To me, there’s no point in drinking it. AND some even say it makes you gain weight or stops you from losing weight. I know I feel bloated when I drink it, and since I’ve significantly reduced my diet soda intake, I am losing weight faster. That also has to do with reducing my sugar intake as well, but diet soda is just as bad, if not worse than sugar. Water and iced tea are your best bets. Green tea is also great and has natural anti-oxidants 🙂

  2. Oh my gosh…that is HUGE! Congratulations, Melissa! I tend to forget about the money I’m throwing away on it, too. It really does all add up, doesn’t it?

This is one thing I struggle with – I know I should give it up, but it honestly makes me sad. However, I do crave tea a lot more in the summer time….maybe I could just start swapping my DC out for tea at least once or twice a week?

  3. I just discovered your blog through searching for C/S…
and I am so with you on this! I stopped cold turkey a couple of weeks ago and have had two since then without getting back into the rut. My first one was so, so good and gave me that special DC high. The second one was a throwaway, and I haven’t gone back. As long as I keep reading about the effects of aspartame (especially related to mood disorders), I continue not to crave it.
