Check out my latest post over at WeAretheRealDeal.com, “I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar”
Or read it here, after the jump.
I know it’s supposed to be what’s inside that matters most — and I’m a firm believer in that. But while it might sound ridiculously superficial, sometimes just putting on a single pair of shoes or piece of clothing can change your entire outlook.

But while it might sound ridiculously superficial, sometimes just putting on a single pair of shoes or piece of clothing can change your entire outlook.
It could be something as simple as a flowy scarf your sister gave you, a leather coat you got in Italy … or as decadent as a couture gown or a pair of Manolos.
The key to its fabulousness — whatever it is — is that it’s your signature item. Uniquely yours.

No matter what kind of mood I’m in, when I slip on my favorite pair of jeans (Joe’s Provocateur in Vincent, for anyone interested) I feel like I can rule the world. Seriously.
Even when I’m bloated, feeling sad … they make me feel like a queen. All my body image issues go away when I put these babies on.
They fit higher on my waist than other jeans, so there’s no concern about exposing any skin if I bend over to get something on the floor.
They are just the right length (no alterations needed; love the petite fit for someone with short stubs for legs, like me!).
I can dress these jeans up for work or a date night with my husband (I seriously can’t wear these jeans without getting a loving butt-pinch from my hubby!) or dress them down for a casual Sunday BBQ.
And best of all, they’re a size up from my “skinny jeans” … which means I don’t need to squeeze myself into them (like I had been doing with my Citizens that last year, I had to accept, just didn’t fit anymore).
When I wear these jeans, I’m not a recovering disordered eater. I’m not a young woman about to turn thirty who is weighed down by 10-15 lbs of unwanted weight that crept back on.
No, no. In these jeans, I am woman, here me roar!
In these jeans, I feel like I can tackle anything. And that feels pretty damn good.
How about you? Do you have a signature piece of clothing that makes you feel like a queen?
