Nuts for Nuts!

51DSDeTdekL__SS500_Though today pretty much any food you can imagine comes in a 100-cal pack, a couple years ago, I gave up on the phenomenon cold turkey.

I realized they were mostly just smaller versions of processed crap. Plus, they weren’t cheap, and if I really wanted a treat, I could make my own single-serve baggie of said treat.

However, at Target yesterday, I found these 100-cal pack gems by Emerald Nuts in my most favorite almond flavor: Cocoa Roast, and I couldn’t resist.

Having previously tried them in the canister before (and fallen in love with them) I picked up two boxes: one to keep at my desk, and one to keep at home. I also might stash a few in my car for road trips!

At $2.59 for 7 servings per box — each pouch is a serving — it was not such a bad deal, especially since the giant container runs around $7 or $8 at my grocery store. (My hubby likes savory nuts (we have a nut factory at home, I swear!) … so a whole canister might go bad before I could eat them all).

I love almonds, walnuts and peanut butter (oddly, I’m not interested in raw peanuts — just in the butter form) and they’re heart-healthy, a good source of protein and fat … a delicious snack.

And now that I’m back to feeling good and strong and thinking of my body like a temple … cocoa-dusted almonds sound like the perfect treat.

Heck, I might even try them crushed in oats!! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

How about you? Do you have a favorite nut?

  1. Those sounds great. I haven’t seen them before. After years of avoiding nuts and nut butters (due to the fat content) I am so happy to have incorporated them back into my diet. My faves are raw almonds and walnuts.

  2. I am a sucker for dark-chocolate almonds and good old plain walnuts. Although I’ve been enjoying pecans lately in my morning oatmeal!

  3. I buy these (although the non-cocoa version) all the time. They are the key to my success – now 21 lbs lost! They satisfy me and keep me from eating junk food in the late afternoon/pre-dinner hungry time. BJ’s sells them — $10 for 30 servings. Between these and vitatops I’m a happy camper 🙂

  4. Choc covered anything rocks, Yasmin! Allison, that’s FAB!! Way to go, mi amiga!! 🙂 Love Vitatops too but I haven’t bought them in eons!

  5. those 100kcal packs are a good idea for people watching their calories on the go. It’s easier to remember “I ate 6 packs so it’s 600 kcal” then to count everythin “I ate some peanuts… I guess 150kcal.. then some burger… let’s say 300” and so on. It’s more accurate imo.
