Random: A Sublime Sunrise Jog

Since I was in high school, I’ve been a huge proponent of morning exercise, particularly morning jogs. Training in between cheerleading and track seasons, I would wake at 6:00 a.m. to hit the road to stay in tip-top form. In college, my jogs would be a bit later, but I’d still be awake before most of the world was. A sunrise pavement-pound is how I usually learn my way around new cities; what better way to get to know a new place?

Here at home, I have a fabulous biking/running trail behind my house. Still, for convenience/safety sake, I usually find myself at the gym in the morning. BO-RING!

But now that it’s light out at 5:30 a.m., I see no reason not to vary things up. And so I laced my New Balances, slapped on my heart rate monitor, grabbed my keys and phone, and I was off. For 45 minutes it was just me and open road, and then open trail as I wound my way back home off-road. I watched the sun rise, and focused on the strides and my breath. Not a care in the world.

Now, I feel incredible! 🙂

How about you? Do you find early morning jogs or exercise as exhilirating as I do?

  1. I find a run, whenever I can fit it in, totally exhilirating. I commend you on getting up and getting it done with. nothing beats that feeling of having completed the most strenuous exercise (at least I find it is) before most people have rolled out of bed!

my question to you, is how you manage to carry your cell phone with you? fanny pack? anything in my hands gets soaking wet.

  2. I wish I got them in more often; I just wake up some days inspired and go for it but I am def. not a regular runner like I was in h.s.

LOL–no, def. not a fanny pack! I carry my keys in one hand (self-defense) and my phone in the other. I do get a little sweaty on my hands but since the sun wasn’t quite up, it wasn’t bad at all. Plus, I seem to perspire from the head worst of all which ruins my hair.

  3. I am just getting back into running but I absolutely adore yoga in the morning. I have always seemed to like afternoon runs the best.
